DBS Tracking Stages

What happens after you have completed your DBS application? You have filled out the application, sent it off, and now it is out of your hands. So what happens after you hit submit?

Our DBS services are not only fast and reliable, we pride ourselves on being open and transparent and keeping you informed every step of the way. With our DBS tracking service, you can see your DBS move through each stage of the process, keeping you updated of how far it has got and what is going to happen next. We understand that no-one wants to wait too long to start their new role because they are waiting for their DBS check to be completed. We can’t speed up the DBS, but we can keep you informed, every step of the way.

Your DBS application goes through a number of DBS tracking stages, depending on which DBS check was selected.

The chart below shows each of the DBS tracking stages at-a-glance.

A flowchart depicting the DBS tracking stages.

The Stages of a DBS Check

DBS Tracking Stages Of A Basic DBS Check?

Stage 1: The application is checked for errors by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Stage 2: A check against the Police National Computer (PNC) is made.
Stage 3 and 4: are not carried out in a Basic DBS Check.
Stage 5: The DBS Certificate is printed and sent to the applicant.

What are the DBS Tracking Stages of a Standard DBS Check?

Stage 1: Application is checked for errors by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Stage 2: A check against the Police National Computer (PNC) is made.
Stage 3 and 4: are not carried out in a Standard DBS Check.
Stage 5: The DBS Certificate is printed and sent to the applicant.

Basic and Standard checks share the same DBS tracking stages – the only difference is in the information disclosed in the certificate.

What are the DBS Tracking Stages of an Enhanced DBS Check?

Stage 1: Application is checked for errors by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Stage 2: A check against the Police National Computer (PNC) is made.
Stage 3: The applicant is checked against the Children and/or Adult Barred List (if necessary for the job role). The Enhanced DBS Check is the only type of DBS check that can include this stage.
Stage 4: Local police records are checked. Any relevant information found will be included on the DBS certificate.
Stage 5: The DBS Certificate is printed and sent to the applicant.

Our DBS Tracking Stages Service

Our online system has an inbuilt DBS tracking tool, allowing you to check the progress of each DBS application you submit, hassle-free.

You will be updated via email whenever there is a change in the status of your DBS application. The DBS Tracking stages have never been easier to follow.

With DBS checks, there are sometimes delays – the most common hold-up is a delay at a specific branch of the police force. The use of the inbuilt tracking system allows you to see the cause of these unavoidable delays and keep you informed about what’s happening. We also have an informative article on Stage 4 delays. Knowing what stage you, or your applicants’ DBS checks are at can help you to plan your onboarding, as you can estimate when the DBS Check will be complete and the applicant will be ready to start work.
