The DBS checking process, each stage explained
Stage 1: The application form is received and validated
The application form is checked by the
Disclosure and Barring service
, if any errors or omissions are found the application is
returned for correction to the Aaron's Department Countersignatory. At this stage an application
may also be returned if have DBS service have any questions or clarifications regarding the
Disclosure and Barring Service application form.
Stage 2: The Police National Computer (PNC) is searched
The application form's data is compared against details held on the
Police National Computer
, identifying possible matches.
Stage 3: Where applicable, the Children's and Adults’ barred lists are searched
Key data from the application form is compared against barred lists to search for any matches.
Stage 4: Search of records, held by the police
Enhanced checks are sent by secure, electronic means to the police for an additional check of their records. An applicant's
details may be the same as, or similar to details held at any police force across the country.
To make sure potential matches are not missed, those individual police forces will check the
Applicant's details against their information.
Stage 5: The DBS certificate is printed
All the information to be disclosed is printed under highly secure procedures and posted to the applicant. The applicant
